"In the still water of the fountains one saw the splash of human faces, ignited by these gold and scarlet stars as they rose hissing into heaven like thirsty swans." from Justine by Lawrence Durrell.

TESTING NEW GLASS

I acquired a new lens about 10 days ago. The first subjects that I used it on were flowers which I've already posted here. I was anxious to try it for portrait work. This weekend I took advantage of the fact that my wife would be around...so after coaxing her a bit...and allowing some time for makeup I got to try out the new glass.

Tech specs - Lens: Nikkor 24-120mm on a Nikon D750. I also wanted to play around with lights so if you're interested here is the set up -

There are four lights in this image.

I was about six feet from the subject and behind me was a huge 64" PLM white umbrella. Shooting thru that was the Alien Bee 800 set to very low power to give me a fill of underexposure - around f2/f2.8.

The key was from left and up. Key was an off camera flash fitted with a Lumiquest ltp and that was pushed thru a 24x36 flag of China 1/3 Silk to give me a very soft light. Key was around f4.

The other two light were Arri Peppers. One gave just a puff of light on the background and the other a 3/4 hair light again on the left.

YESTERDAY'S CLOUDS

Anyone notice the clouds around sunset last night? The sky towards sunset was pretty dull but the eastern sky was chock full of huge cloud formations.

WHITE IN THE DARK

©Andy deBruyn

It was getting darker, the cloud coverage heavier, the rains were about to come but the light was enough to make this lily pop.

LET ME PAINT YOU A PICTURE

©Andy deBruyn

Several more images from morning's trek just before the rains came.

"Let me paint you a picture
from my window today
there's a hawk that keeps hovering
over its prey
there's a gun-metal sky
with patches of blue
let me paint a picture
paint a picture for you."

BLUE GLASS AND STEEL

©Andy deBruyn

I don't know the name of this building but this is the first image I made when I stepped out of the car before going into the Nasher Sculpture Museum. After flowers, I think architecture is my favorite  thing to shoot.

Update: after checking google 3D I think this is called Museum Tower. But don't quote me.

UP NORTH...SORTA

One of my favorite things to do when up in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area is to visit the museums. The Nasher Sculpture Museum is always first on the list. If I don't find time for anything else...you'll find me at the Nasher.
