"In the still water of the fountains one saw the splash of human faces, ignited by these gold and scarlet stars as they rose hissing into heaven like thirsty swans." from Justine by Lawrence Durrell.

NEVER TOO LATE

©2017 Andy deBruyn

This past Saturday I had the distinct honor of photographing the wedding of Brenda and Cheryl. Partners for over twenty years they finally made it official. The whole event was a fun blast to capture for them and their families and friends.

HEIRLOOM TESTING

Today I'm just testing a couple of items - 2 heirlooms tomatoes and 2 healthy garlic bulbs. I'll expand on this theme tomorrow.

...and BTW - I shot this image with a Nikon D70, a 6MP digital camera which was introduced in 2004.  The sensor is the old CCD type. The industry changed to CMOS right after this. You can buy a D70 body used for around 70 dollars. The lens is my nifty fifty from about 1970. I paid less than a hundred dollars for it. Shooting in natural light at ISO 400, 1/40ss at f2.

THE RIVERWALK

This past weekend the family went down to San Antonio to the Riverwalk. I'm sure you've all been there so I won't bore you with pictures of the touristy boats, colorful umbrellas, and the obnoxious ducks and pigeons. So...here are some images I made while walking around in the 100 degree heat. Spoiler...there is one colorful tabletop.

LOOKING BACK

©Andy deBruyn

I was reading another photog's blog today and he was comparing some of his images from years ago - basically seeing how far digital cameras have come.

So that prompted me to look at some of my older images.

This one is my son taken in June of 2009...now I'm not a pixel peeper...you know those who look really really deep into the image, blowing it up a hundred percent to see whatever is hiding in the shadows.

For me, if the image "works" - then that's just peachy keen. I'll forgive technical frailties. I like this picture a lot. A little daylight behind the curtain, the lamp is lighting the chess pieces and the left side of the face.
(back when kids actually read books...sob sob)

Taken with the ancient Nikon D80 (10MP) hand held at 1/20th ss, 160 ISO, f5. No post - straight from the camera just reduced for the web.

TWO SO FAR

My camera's been sitting on a tripod in the office/studio since Sunday. Every so often I went in there and popped off a few shots. Here are two selections

The only difference with this shot is it was taken with evening light coming in the window hence the color shift.

PICTURES OF LILY

©2017 Andy deBruyn

Playing with my new Asian Lily and light. Juxtaposing with the orchid - using side window light and reflectors. Sometimes I'll use a Matthews C-stand to hold the reflector and sometimes I hand hold to maximize the moving light.

ASIAN LILY

©2017 Andy deBruyn

I bought some Asia Lilies yesterday. As you can see only two have opened. They're guaranteed for a week so the others should open soon. And yes...I will be documenting that as well.

What can I say? I'm a flower junkie.

Added a couple of hours later. Yellow background.

WITHIN YOU WITHOUT YOU

©Andy deBruyn

"Try to realize it's all within yourself, no-one else can make you change
And to see you're really only very small
And life flows on within you and without you"   The Beatles

50 years ago today The Beatles released Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. 37 minutes of music that changed everything.
