SLOW WEEK ORCHID WEEK

This has been a slow week for me...photographically speaking. Just a lot of life stuff. The orchid has been sitting in my office/studio soaking up window light. The camera resting on a tripod. Every so often I'll breeze in there and if the light looks good I'll fire off another shot.

Several projects are just on paper for now but June looks like it might be fruitful.

REBORN ORCHID

©Andy deBruyn

This is one of my orchids from last year. I pruned it about six months ago. It looks like I may have some new orchids coming up.

I have another one that's not doing so good. I may have to nurse it a bit more.

That orchid mist food is great stuff.

Thanks for stopping by...and stay tuned for further orchidian developments.

HAPPY DAY MOTHER EARTH

Best Wishes to Mother Earth...and I'm real sorry for all the crap you have to put up with.

A DIARY LIKE NOTE

©Andy deBruyn

Pictured here is 35mm Panavision camera on a dolly sitting on a sled positioned in the end zone of Permian High football field in Odessa, Tx. (very late at night) Shot on film with a point and shoot.

I worked on this rig for the movie Friday Night Lights. One of my jobs was to make sure that the camera ran smoothly when the dolly grip and I pushed and pulled the unit for the shots.

This camera was the B unit, meaning we were shooting a lot of images for the editor to cut away to.
The director of photography on B was Thom Owens.  I looked him up this week to see what he was doing and found out he passed away several years ago. He was a nice guy to work with...one of the nicest.

A personal memory was...we wrapped shooting that night just after midnight...there was a heavy drizzle in the air. I was by myself breaking down the rig and saw Thom across the field around the fifty yard line walking towards me and getting pretty wet as the drizzle turned to a light rain. He walked the fifty yards and came up and shook my hand and said thanks for the hard work. Not too many people in this industry do that.

To end on a lighter note.

Director Peter Berg in baseball cap (Deepwater Horizon, Patriots Day) watches his two sons being pushed on a sled between shots.

The A camera is on the right. The green tint in the pictures is due to using daylight corrected film with the sodium vapor (wavelength 589nm) lights of the stadium.

TREES AND LIGHT

After studying trees by Giorgione, Rubens, and Rosa Saturday evening, I had to go out with my camera and try and get some nice tree shots. These were taken around 9am this Sunday morning with the sun as a backlight.

 ©Andy deBruyn

I had the camera, Nikon D7000, on a tripod in aperture mode at f9 with ISO set to 100. I removed the UV filter and replaced it with a polarizer. The shutter was tripped by the timer. The shutter speeds were around 1/25th of a second. And I fiddled with the exposure comp to try and save highlights and still retain shadow detail.
