"You carry Mother Earth within you. She is not outside of you. Mother Earth is not just your environment. In that insight of inter-being it is possible to have real communication with the earth, which is the highest form of prayer." Thich Nhat Hanh

PARTING SHOT

Not that I'm a huge fan of "Lawn Personalities" especially when they're deflated and lie on the lawn like decomposing rubber -BUT I have to admit this guy takes the Panettone.

CANDY CANE SABER VADER

He's just down the street and he is most impressive if you're five...or seventy five. In reality, he's not lit.  I used the in camera flash to bring out some detail. But if you're walking around at night and don't expect him to be standing on the corner...

How big is this dude? he's this big -----

DENTAL VISIONS

Recently I found myself waiting in the lobby of my dentist and laughing gas distributor. After perusing month old copies of People, Redbook and AARP, I leaned back in my chair and studied the elaborate display of windows above me...and this was before the nitrous oxide. I couldn't decide which angle I liked best so I'm printing both of them.

WHAT? NO SNOW?

Taken February 2010 at Brushy Creek Park. I guess no snow this Christmas. It's 70  degrees out there. The record is 90 degrees on Christmas in Austin....1955....that's something to be grateful for.

Have a happy and safe one.

RIDING AROUND AND JUMPING OUT

It was cold this morning...44 degrees...but walking around it felt like 33. The house was warm and felt stuffy so I went for a ride around the neighborhood. Jumping out when I saw something that looked interesting.

15 from 16 on 14

These aren't so much my favorites but rather illustrate some of my photographic interests. I could have picked a totally different set on another day. Click on the top photo to drill through the set.
All of these images were made this past year.

THE TOP FIFTEEN COMING

Once again here we are at the end of the year. I am currently going over all the images I made this year and trying to pick some favorites.

I'll publish them next week prior to Christmas vacation.

LIBERTY HILL SCOUT

A couple of things seen while strolling through Liberty Hill...but not for long...because it was
40 degrees and dropping fast and leaves were blowing down the street.

DO WE REALLY NEED VR GLASSES?

DOWN BY THE RIVER

Around this time every year I take a trek down to the San Gabriel river in the Georgetown area. The light is always lovely in November.

Most are taken with the camera on a tripod, UV filter removed but adding a polarizer to control reflections. Also used a timer to avoid touching the camera.

I love these rock formations, evidence of millions of years of water erosion.

Set the camera to aperture priority at f8 because this lens (18-135mm) seems to be darn sharp around 7.1 to 8. Camera used - Nikon D7000.

MOSAIC ART

I was commissioned by Gabrielle Mosaic to capture one of her sculptures in a practical setting. This particular piece was purchased by one of her clients and placed in their backyard.
When the sun is out, the glass bits pick up the rays and project them back on the ground for a wonderful effect.

However, that isn't so great for photography. The shiny points of brilliant light throw the digital sensor into zero and one confusion blocking out some of the finer details.

A soft overcast day is what the sensor loves...not too much contrast...not too little...
just right...the Goldilocks light.
